Leibham to run for re-election to state Senate

State Sen. Joe Leibham, R-Sheboygan, has announced that he will seek re-election from the 9th State Senate District in the general election to be held Nov. 2, 2010.

“I have enjoyed representing the citizens of the 9th Senate District over the past seven years. I am humbled to work for my constituents in the State Capitol and serve as their voice and vote in the legislative process,” Leibham said in a press release announcing his campaign. “After receiving strong encouragement from many constituents and carefully considering it with my family, I have decided that I will seek a new term in the State Senate. I look forward to an exciting re-election campaign.”

Leibham said he would work hard throughout the campaign to connect with as many citizens as possible. “I look forward to personally visiting with as many voters as possible at their doors and at community events so I can listen to their ideas and share with them my legislative goals for a new term,” Leibham said.

Leibham said one of his main goals in a new term will be to change the mindset in the Capitol and advance a new legislative agenda that supports good paying jobs and seeks to reduce Wisconsin’s high tax burden.

“The policies approved by the Legislature and governor over the last couple of years have made Wisconsin one of the highest taxed states in the nation; placing an even greater financial burden on the hardworking families and citizens of our state while destroying private sector jobs,” Leibham said.

“I have fought and voted against all of these anti-job initiatives and I am hopeful that in a new term I will be able to help lead a positive, pro-jobs agenda to get our state moving in a new direction,” Leibham said.

Constituent service will also remain a focus of Leibham in a new term. “I enjoy assisting my constituents when they need help dealing with a state agency or program. They deserve to have someone fighting for them,” Leibham said. “I have helped thousands of constituents over the past several years and will continue to have this as a priority in a new term.”
