School flu shot clinics postponed

Voluntary vaccination clinics in Plymouth schools for the 2009 H1N1 influenza virus have been postponed until further notice because an adequate supply of vaccine is not available, according to the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health.

Clinics for the Plymouth schools would have been Nov. 4 to 11. No new dates have been scheduled, and the Division of Public Health indicated the delayed clinics may stretch into December.

Production of the vaccine has been slower than anticipated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has revised its guidelines, indicating that healthy children ages 5 to 18 should wait for a larger supply of vaccine to arrive.

Parents of students with chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes and heart conditions, may wish to contact their medical provider to discuss vaccine availability at their offices.
