Railroad angst

To the Editor:

Re: The railroad resurrecting the tracks for 11 miles and the people extremely against it.

You have nothing to worry about. The engineer will blow the whistle slightly for your children. He will wave. The children will wave back.

The whistle will be blown before he intersects with the roads he must cross to warn. Plus, you will be able to see him coming. They travel at 3-5 mph. Normally they are not very long trains.

For over 40 years, I have lived a very short stone's throw away from these same tracks. It is not the problem you are making it out to be!

Really, it is not!

As far as emergencies go, the ambulance shed is on State 67. They can go south to PP, then east to Blueberry and be at your house without a problem. Actually, if you thought a moment, this is probably the route they would take to get there anyway. If the train was across South Street, from past experience, I can tell you it will not cross Highland Avenue at the same time.

Perhaps you should be more concerned about WisDOT planning on closing off access roads to State 23 sometime in the future. Think about those living on County OJ and how one of their houses could burn just waiting for a fire truck to get there in case of an emergency.

My personal feelings are that you are worrying needlessly. The Bible says to not worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow will take care of itself.

Channel your energy into something else. Like maybe picking up litter along the highway (or something).

Don't get your tail in a knot.
