EUGENE H. BRASS

Eugene H. Brass, loving and supportive husband and father, dedicated farmer and a man of strong faith, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center.

He was born in the town of Herman on Aug. 16, 1919, a son of the late Hubert W. and Malinda (Horneck) Brass. Eugene graduated from the eighth grade at Schwarzwald grade school in 1933. He attended Howards Grove High School for one year, then worked at the family farm and as a hired hand until purchasing his own farm Sept. 28, 1940.

On Sept. 23, 1944, Eugene H. Brass and Lucille A. Spindler were united in marriage at St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed Church in the town of Russell. Eugene and Lucille celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2009. Together, the couple farmed for over 45 years. In 1986, Eugene and Lucille sold the farm and moved to their new home in Howards Grove.

He was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Schwarzwald, where he served on the consistory, cemetery board, and was a member of the Men’s Brotherhood.

Surviving Eugene is his loving wife, Lucille; a son and his wife, Wayne (Jane) Brass and a daughter and her husband, Pearl (Terry) Fritz; a brother and his wife, Archie (Dorothy) Brass and a sister-in-law, Janet Brass; eight grandchildren, Erika Celeste, Benjamin and Hillary Brass, Meaghan (Brass) Bickford, Megan Craig, Joseph, David and Andrew Wellbaum; and three greatgrandchildren, Cameren and Kaleb Hobbs and Callum Buchanan.

In addition to his parents, Eugene was also preceded in death by his father- and mother-in-law, Theodore and Olinda Spindler; a brother, Elroy Brass; a granddaughter, Celeste Brass; as well as nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was conducted for Eugene on Monday noon, Nov. 2, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Schwarzwald, town of Herman. The Rev. DuWayne Hanke officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
