Tigers’ Rabe repeats on All-CLC first team
by Greg Ceilley of The Review staff
Junior forward Duston Rabe of Howards Grove was named to the All-Central Lakeshore Conference boys soccer first team for the second straight season.
Rabe was voted to the team unanimously by the CLC coaches. Other Tigers who earned all-league recognition are sophomore midfielder-defender Robert Betke on the second team and senior midfielderforward Kyle Hansen and junior goalkeeper Carter Rockhill on honorable mention.
Rabe had eight goals and four assists for the overall season.
“Duston is a captain and a leader on our team,” said Tiger head coach Todd Fischer.
“He comes early to practice, stays late and works extremely hard and pushes his teammates to be better. He never gives up and thinks of the team first.
“He learned to work through being double-covered in games,” said Fischer.
Betke contributed one assist and one goal this year.
“Robert is a captain on the team. He is respected for his work ethic and his commitment to our team,” Fischer pointed out.
“He never gives up and works extremely hard. He is a very skilled and talented player.”
Hansen, a team captain, totaled six goals and three assists.
“Kyle led our team at practices and games. He assisted his teammates whenever they needed help,” the coach said.
“Kyle was willing to play a number of positions on the field in an effort to do what was best for the team.”
Rockhill, in his first season as the Tigers’ goalie, made 189 saves.
“Carter stepped up and played keeper this year after we identified a need. He graciously volunteered and did an outstanding job,” Fischer observed.
“While it was a new position for him, he tried to learn as much as he could and worked very hard in practices and games. He goes above and beyond for the good of the team.”
The other players who repeated on the first unit are senior forward Andrew Stecker of Sheboygan Christian and senior forward Matt Knight of Random Lake. The other unanimous first-team players include Stecker, Knight, Kohler senior forward Frank Marzano, Oostburg senior forward Matt Hokanson and Sheboygan Christian senior defender Taylor Dekker.
Kohler, which won its second straight CLC title, has a league-best four first-team picks. The Blue Bombers were the Division 3 state runners-up – losing to Racine St. Catherine’s in the finals, 1-0, in double-overtime.
