Seven Falcons claim All-EWC honors

Seven Sheboygan Falls players have been named to the 2009 Eastern Wisconsin Conference boys soccer team.

Falls seniors Nathan Brown and Dan Duda collected first team All-EWC recognition. Senior Ricky Haase was named to the second team, while seniors Lewis Halverson, David Bimmel, Mike Hermann and junior Mitch Thimmig were honorable-mention selections.

Brown, a four-year varsity player, received second-team All-EWC honors in 2008. Brown was the team captain and led the Falcons with 15 assists to go along with nine goals.

“He was our leader,” said Falcons coach Jose Hernandez. “Brown played hard and interacted well with other players on the team.”

Duda, a two-year varsity player, was a first-time, All-EWC selection. Duda led the team in scoring with 24 goals and had seven assists.

“He was our go-getter,” said Hernandez. “Duda was able to play anywhere on the field.”

Haase, a two-year varsity player, scored 10 goals and had four assists.

“Haase played hard the whole game,” remarked Hernandez. “He controlled the ball well and kept offensive pressure on other teams.”

Halverson played forward, scoring 20 goals and dishing out five assists.

Hernandez felt honorable-mention players Bimmel, Thimmig and Hermann were the heart of the Falcons defense.

“Our defensive group this season was superior, and one of the reasons that we were able to be successful,” Hernandez expressed.

The stingy Falls defense recorded nine shutouts this season.
