The female Cedar Grove victim suffered from significant fear and mental anguish over a course of almost two years after on several occasions she returned to her home to find evidence that someone else had been inside. On two occasions, she found that her undergarments in her hamper were soaked with urine. On other occasions, she came home to find her swimsuits with the crotch-area cut out of them with scissors, clothes in her drawers were moved around, black hairs left behind, and footprints in her freshly vacuumed carpet of her bedroom. The victim reported each incident to the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department, but there were no suspects. The victim set up a surveillance system in her home and on June 27, 2009, the camera captured the image of a neighbor, Schultz, entering the residence through the back door, which she had left locked. Detectives interviewed Schultz, who initially denied going into the house, but later said he entered on that day because he found a key near his backyard and was investigating an incident where someone was entering his neighbor’s residence. Schultz produced the key and was arrested. Officers asked Schultz why his DNA was found on items found from previous incidents and then he admitted to being in the house on other occasions. Schultz had entered through a window until he found a key inside and made a copy. He admitted to touching the victim’s undergarments, putting her panties on himself, taking a shower inside her residence, urinating on her clothes, and cutting her swimsuits.
