Working together

To the Editor:

The Howards Grove School District is proud to highlight our schools during American Education Week, Nov. 15-21.

In conjunction with our administrators, support staff and School Board members, and the help and support of parents and the community, the Howards Grove Education Association is proud to be a part of the success of our students/graduates. With over 60 percent of our staff having obtained a master’s degree, we feel confident that we offer a high-quality program in our schools.

Northview Elementary School continues its tradition of high-quality instruction. Fire and Water Safety, along with Amelia's Notebook Writing Project highlight recent activities. New this year is a tutoring program before school, and student success in the classroom is enhanced by the school's emphasis on character development. Future events include an annual Book Fair, and Winter Carnival.

Howards Grove Middle School is busy with numerous activities and themes. Some current activities include Service Learning for Salvation Army, Red Ribbon Week, Citizen Collages, Autobiography books, Lakeland College Math Meet, Wetlands at the Kiel Marsh, and Boggsville.

Howards Grove High School enters our 14th year in block scheduling. This schedule format allows our students to earn over 30 credits upon graduation, and provides many beneficial aspects, including the opportunity to accelerate curriculum, and a slower pace to the school day. Advanced Placement courses, online classes, and enhancement opportunities through Youth Options and Youth Apprenticeships enable us to compete with larger schools in preparing our students for the future, while maintaining the benefits of a smaller school.

None of this would be possible without the support of administrators, support staff, teachers, School Board members, parents and community. Thank you for helping to make our schools great!
