It’s that ho-ho-ho time of year again

ABOUT THE ONLY ONES who probably won’t have holiday fever after this weekend will be the turkeys.

Christmas is only a little over a month away and, while there have been signs of the holiday — decorations, advertising, music and more — for some time now — probably too long for many — it’s now getting to the time where the Christmas season takes over completely.

Plymouth gets the season rolling right Friday with the annual Holiday Gathering Christmas parade, put on by the Downtown Business Association and the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce.

The parade has gotten bigger, and grander, and more popular every year, and this year will be no exception. No matter what the weather, the parade is always guaranteed to warm the hearts of even the biggest Grinch or Scrooge around, and this year will be no exception.

But the holiday spirit is wider than just the city of Plymouth. There’s plenty of Yuletide events throughout the county to get the season going strong.

Elkhart Lake will have its village Christmas tree lighting ceremony Friday as well, along with a Merchants’ Open House to get everyone in the Christmas mood. The Osthoff Resort starts its Old World Christmas Market a week later, along with other events throughout the weeks leading up to the holiday.

Just down the road, the Old Wade House in Greenbush will transport visitors back to an 1860s Christmas with their Wade House Christmas celebration the first weekend in December.

That same weekend, Sheboygan Falls will be all decked out for the annual Main Street Memories kickoff to the holiday season the first Saturday in December, capped off by their gala holiday parade that night.

In between the holiday parades in Plymouth and Sheboygan Falls, Sheboygan’s Christmas parade will be stepping off the Sunday after Thanksgiving. And the Sheboygan County Historical Society Museum is doing its part to bring smiles to faces young and old as they recreate the joy of Christmas past with their annual Holiday Memories exhibit.

Add to that a long, long list of secular and sacred events throughout the coming weeks and there should be enough Christmas spirit flowing through the area to suffuse even the gloomiest among us with holiday good will.

With all the cares and stresses of everyday life, we can certainly all use more than a little bit of good will right now. So go out and find some of that holiday spirit right here at home, and be sure to share it with everyone you can.
