The story of Ebenezer Scrooge's redemption has not only become a holiday tradition but also a reminder of the importance of charity and mercy toward humankind. The heartwarming tale depicts Scrooge, whose values are focused exclusively on profit, and his conflicts with the struggling Cratchit family, whose tragic problems typified the working class during the Industrial Revolution in Victorian England. The touching climax is based on Dickens’ belief that the ills of a greedy world can be healed by brotherhood and unselfishness.

While the story is no doubt very familiar to audiences, Plymouth Arts Center Theatre Company’s drama chair and director, Kerrylynn Kraemer-Curtiss, chose John Mortimer’s adaptation to surprise and delight audiences. The show features a spirited ensemble of 30 performers including adults and enchanting children, clever, special effects, and a chorus singing traditional Christmas carols.

The “Christmas Carol” production includes a truly great Scrooge and Chris Fontaine proves he can “Bah Humbug” with the best of them.
