Climate change focus of Ice Age Center program

The December program in the Evening with Nature Series at the Kettle Moraine State Forest — Northern Unit is “Wisconsin Forests and Climate Change.”

The program will be held Thursday, Dec. 10, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Henry S. Reuss Ice Age Visitor Center. The Ice Age Visitor Center is located off of State 67 half a mile west of Dundee. The program is free, but donations are always gratefully accepted.

There has been so much talk about how global climate change is affecting everything from the melting polar ice caps to more intense storms throughout the world. But what impact might it impose on Wisconsin? Avery Dorland, Department of Natural Resources forest geneticist and nursery coordinator, will provide a summary of the risks of climate change to Wisconsin’s forests.

He will cover what we might expect in the way of changing weather patterns and shifting growing regions. He will also explain in what ways forests can help mitigate the impact of climate change.

For further information or directions to the Ice Age Visitor Center, please contact the staff at the Ice Age Visitor Center at (920) 533-8322, Wednesday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
