Panthers’ Murray all-state honorable mention
Senior inside linebacker Ian Murray of Plymouth was selected all-state honorable mention on defense by the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association for the 2009 season.
Murray, who anchored the Eastern Wisconsin Conference champions’ stout defense, was voted the EWC’s “Most Valuable Defensive Player” and “Linebacker of the Year,” and was an all-league first-team pick at linebacker.
“Ian had an outstanding season. His play has improved every year he has been on the varsity [past three seasons],” said PHS head coach Dan Knaus.
“Ian was well deserving of his all-state recognition. He was the leading tackler on a defense that only gave up 60 yards rushing per game all season.
“Ian's ability to read the opponent’s offense this year was much improved from the two previous seasons. Ian was a leader more by example rather then by talking,” Knaus pointed out.
Murray recorded 101 tackles, including 38 solos, three quarterback sacks and two interceptions this past season, in which the Panthers finished 9-2 and advanced to the second round of the Division 3 state playoffs.
