Sing-along with `Messiah’

The University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac’s annual holiday concert includes an invitation for the audience to sing-along with the Christmas choruses of “Messiah” during the program. The concert will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, in the Prairie Theater, 400 University Drive.

“Messiah,” by George Frederic Handel, is one of the most celebrated pieces of the holiday season. Audience members may join their voices with the UW-Fond du Lac Chorus and Fond du Lac Chamber Singers accompanied by Fond du Lac Chamber Orchestra directed by Patricia Eby, UW-Fond du Lac associate dean and music professor.

Copies of the Christmas choruses of “Messiah” will be available for purchase at the door for $4 in addition to the concert admission price. Concert admission is $6 for adults and $3 for students. UW-Fond du Lac students are admitted free to the concert with current ID. Concert tickets can be purchased in advance by phone at (920) 929-1111 or at the door.

“Handel’s ‘Messiah’ is a delight for all,” Eby said. “I love seeing people of all ages leaving the concert with a Christmas glow. You can purchase the music at the door, bring your own copy, or just come to relax and listen.”

Soloists for the evening include sopranos Grace Jones, Michelle O’Brian and Jennifer Bell; alto Catherine Weber; tenor Paul Thompson; and bass John Emery.

The evening concert will begin with carols performed by UW-Fond du Lac Chorus and U-FiDeLity directed by Eby and Fond du Lac Chamber Singers directed by Paul Thompson in conjunction with UWMilwaukee graduate program in music, Sharon Hanson, coordinator.
