New Holstein junior has been selected to the National 4-H Conference operations team
Lisa Hampton of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, USDA, recently announced that 4-H member, Ashley Gulig of New Holstein and member of the Wise Wizards 4-H Club and Sheboygan County 4-H, has been selected as a member of the 2010 National 4-H Conference Program Committee
As a 2010 Conference Operations Team member, Gulig will work with a team of youth and adults from state and national 4-H programs across the country to plan, implement and evaluate the upcoming National 4-H Conference.
“After a competitive process, including application and interviews, Gulig is the only Wisconsin youth representative among her national 4-H peers on this Committee,” says Amber Rehberg, Sheboygan County 4-H program coordinator. “Her leadership and action at the club, county, state and national levels give her a great background to serve as an exceptional representative of the Wisconsin 4-H Program!”
The National 4-H Conference is the flagship youth development opportunity of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This tradition, dating back to 1927, has provided an opportunity for delegates to attend training workshops, become acquainted with government and meet with state leaders.
Today, National 4-H Conference has remained true to its original intent while continuing to be future focused. In addition to strengthening leadership skills, the National 4-H Conference creates an experience for delegates to become familiar with government; better understand the rich history of 4-H and its valuable tie to Cooperative Extension and the land-grant system; stimulate thought around key matters; move delegates to action in their local communities; and engage delegates as citizens through meeting with their congressional representatives to discuss issues affecting their communities.
Gulig’s responsibilities included attending a committee planning session in November as well as attendance and preparation at pre-conference and through the entirety of the National 4-H Conference in March of 2010. The National 4-H Conference takes place at National 4-H Headquarters in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
