Numerous Plymouth students in ‘A Christmas Carol’

A number of students from Plymouth schools will appear in the upcoming Plymouth Arts Center production “A Christmas Carol.”

Based on Charles Dickens’ 1843 classic tale, this production is appropriate for the entire family. The heartwarming tale depicts Scrooge, whose values are focused exclusively on profit, and his conflicts with the struggling Cratchit family, whose tragic problems typified the working class during the Industrial Revolution in Victorian England. The touching climax is based on Dickens’ belief that the ills of a greedy world can be healed by brotherhood and unselfishness.

While the story is no doubt very familiar to audiences, Kerrylynn Kraemer-Curtiss, drama chair and director, chose John Mortimer’s adaptation to surprise and delight audiences.

The show features a spirited ensemble of 30 performers including adults and enchanting children, clever special effects, and a chorus singing traditional Christmas carols.

The cast of 30 includes much-loved characters such as miserly Scrooge, the loving Cratchits, Tiny Tim and the Spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come.

Plymouth students in the cast include — Riverview students: Mikey Ambrowiak, seventh grade; Delaney Scudella, fifth grade; and Tehya Wachuta, fifth grade.

Horizon students: Kailie Wachuta, first grade; Maggie Munson, first grade; and Keeley Kuru, third grade.

The play will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11; Saturday, Dec. 12; Friday, Dec. 18; and Saturday, Dec. 19; and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13 at the arts center.
