Wilson Students Make
Gingerbread Houses
In early December Wilson Elementary School students in Sherri Morgan’s kindergarten class made gingerbread houses. During the week students read different versions of the gingerbread story and were asked to compare how the stories were alike and how they were different.
Prior to final activity of building the gingerbread houses, Morgan read the Jan Brett book "The Gingerbread Baby.”

Urban Math Team Wins
Lakeland Competition
On a Thursday in November, a team of Urban Middle School students took first place at the Lakeland Math Meet.
Several of the students on the first place team also won individual awards. Andrew Suscha was the second highest scorer of all sixth graders at the competition. Morgan Ross and William Rupnick tied for ninth place overall while Molly Knoedler and Maggie Clark tied for third place overall.

Urban Middle School
Helps Community
Urban Middle School’s Student Council recently completed its student food drive. Team 6-1 teachers challenged their students to bring in 240 non-perishable food items to be donated to the local food pantry. The team surpassed their goal by collecting 395 items. The school-wide food drive collected a total of the 1,921 food items.

Jefferson After-School
Science Program
Jefferson Elementary School recently participated in a five-week science program that was entitled "Elemantastic." The science enrichment program provides hands-on science activities for the students. The program was part of the after-school program for five Wednesdays. The 21st Century Jefferson Grant paid for this program

Horace Mann Presents
Their Winter Concerts
Horace Mann Middle School presented their winter concerts in December. The Horace Mann bands will perform under the direction of Stephanie Traska and Kim Plautz.
The choral and orchestra groups will also perform. The Horace Mann choral group is under the direction of Barbara Sindelar; the orchestras are directed by Sarah Oftedahl and Sara Bergman.
