Panthers fourth in Oshkosh West Invite

Gambrell’s second in breaststroke leads PHS

OSHKOSH – The Plymouth Panthers had a strong showing in last weekend’s Oshkosh West Invitational boys swimming and diving meet.

PHS finished fourth with 252 points in a very competitive field. Neenah won the title with 397 and Berlin was second at 336½. The diving event was held Friday night and the swimming on Saturday.

Senior Jesse Gambrell was the Panthers’ top place-winner with a second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1 minute, 3.65 seconds. Gambrell’s time is already faster than his sectional performance last season.

Gambrell also placed third in the 200 individual medley.

“A great meet for us last weekend. Lots of good performances,” said Panther head coach Clare Sedlacek.

“We have some [performances] already approaching end-of-season times from last year, especially our 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

“It was excellent to see how well we performed in a meet that featured seven Division 1 teams and some great competition from Division 2 in Berlin, Kiel and Sturgeon Bay/Southern Door,” Sedlacek said.

“Placing fourth in this meet was just where I expected we would be, and we need to continue to work hard in order to reach the goals we have set for ourselves as a team this year.”

The coach was very encouraged that some of the young PHS swimmers and divers competed well.
