LEROY J. MIKOLOGIC
LeRoy J. Mikologic, age 78, of 218 Forest Ave., Plymouth, Wis., died in his sleep at home Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009.
He was born April 15, 1931 in St. Cloud, a son of the late Sylvester and Marcella Schneider Mikologic. He attended St. Claudius Catholic School in St. Cloud through second grade, then his family moved to Plymouth, where he attended grade school and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1950.
Roy joined the Air Force in 1951, trained as a surgical technician in Texas and went overseas to Germany. He then spent three years with the 7505th USAF
Hospital at Burdurop Park, Swindon, England in air evacuation and surgery.
Discharged in March 1955, he worked as a fishing guide in Boulder Junction, Wis., where he met his future wife, Sandra Skaritka of Chicago. Following their marriage, they have always lived in Plymouth.
During the late 1950s and 1960s, Roy was a local wedding photographer. He worked at Kohler Co. for four years and then at Borden Co. in Plymouth, retiring in 1994.
Roy had extensive throat cancer surgery and was a laryngectomee, speaking with a Servox Speech Device
He was a life member of the Plymouth World Cheese Center VFW Post #5612. In 1970-71, he had the honor of being named captain of the All-State Post Commanders at the state convention in Kenosha. He served the local post and district in various offices and chairmanships in the early 1980s and held several different statewide project chairmanships.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra of Plymouth; two daughters, Lynn (Steve) Goulder of Las Vegas, Nev., and Karen (Edward) Arnold of Rio Rancho, N.M.; one son, Paul (Rhonda) Mikologic of Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren: Sarah (Tommy) Killian of Las Vegas, Nev.; Kyle and Sean Mikologic of Las Vegas, Nev., and Jessica and Nicole Mikologic of Illinois; one sister, Helen Jean Miller of Cascade, Wis.; niece, Kelly Ann Miller of Sheboygan; nephew, Kenneth Mikologic; and brother-in-law, Bernard Rentmeester of Rocky Knoll. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by one son, Scott Mikologic, who died in a motorcycle accident in July 2007; his parents; one brother, Sherman (Jack) Mikologic and one sister, Marie (Micky) Rentmeester.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. Father Wayne Bittner will officiate and burial will be in Plymouth Woodlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Suchon Funeral Home from 3 p.m. Tuesday until the time of services.
The Plymouth VFW World Cheese Center Post #5612 will conduct military rites at the funeral home following the services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in LeRoy’s name.
