Lyndon loves parties

To the Editor:

The song “There’ll Be a Hot Time in the Old Town Hall” might begin to resonate at Lyndon’s Town Hall. But it won’t be due to any controversial issues like taxes or other weighty governmental issues.

In fact, quite the opposite is true. The Town Board has developed a program by which the Town Hall can be used for purposes other than town business. This program serves a public need and makes a little extra money to help reduce some of the town’s expenses. I say it’s a win-win situation for everyone.

The program is renting out the new Town Hall for events like bridal showers, birthday parties, retirement fetes and other non-commercial social gatherings such as “bona fide” clubs like agricultural societies, churches, lodges, veterans organizations, etc. The hall and its grounds (for summer picnics) are available for groups up to 99 persons, and the events may be held anytime between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m., seven days a week (except, of course, when a town meeting is scheduled).

Rental fees are a mere $50 for Lyndon residents and only $25 for non-residents. A security deposit is required, but that is totally refunded if the renters adhere to the rental hall provision agreements. Those provisions are basically that the hall be left in the same pristine condition after the event as it was before the event.

Chairperson Kristin Hughes stated, “We hope that people will realize what a good deal this is. It’s a wonderful opportunity to really make the Town Hall available to the public and utilize the hall to its full capacity and still reap some financial benefits for the town.”

She further stated, “We’ve made the rental fee very reasonable, and the hall and grounds and ample parking spaces make this an ideal rental for individuals and small groups that want an economical and pleasant place to have their event.”

Town Clerk Sally Marver, 528-7255, schedules all the requested events and can provide complete information on renting the hall.
