Grant from First Congregational Church Supports Youth Program

First Congregational Church, 310 Bluff Ave. was very pleased to announce a grant, in part made possible with funds resulting from of the sale of their interest in the former Hearthside.

Many years ago Hearthside served “at-risk” youth in the Sheboygan area. This grant made to Empower Youth Services of Sheboygan continues First Congregational’s outreach and support to the at-risk youth of the area.

Empower Youth Services works with at-risk youth referred to them through the County Department of Health and Human Services. Empower works daily with these youth, building strong values in all areas of their lives, including education, life skills, vocational training, and goal setting, while incorporating them into their communities as positive functioning citizens.

Through enriching educational practices, vocational training, and daily structure, Empower touches the heart of the at-risk youth they work with, guiding them into a higher educational setting, or family supportive placement, while addressing learning deficits and behavioral issues.

Chris Kuehnel, vice moderator of First Congregational Church stated as he presented the check to Empower, “As a welcoming church focused on community involvement and support of those in need, we are pleased to be able to continue the legacy of Hearthside by supporting Empower financially as it expands its role with youth in the Sheboygan area.”

Mr. Benton of Empower Youth Services was pleased with the continued community support which makes possible the expanded programming to at risk youth in our communities including life skills training, improved study habits and behavioral modification.
