NASCAR event coming to Road America

Road America and NASCAR have announced that the Nationwide Series will headline a four-day race weekend at the legendary road course June 17-20, 2010.

The Nationwide Road America 200 will run on Saturday, June 19, 2010. In its history, the track has held two NASCAR races, a 1956 Grand National division race and the 2001 Re/Max American Challenge.

Road America will offer NASCAR fans the unique perspective of a multiple-turn road course. The 4.048-mile circuit's 14 turns, three high-speed straight-aways and dramatic elevation changes provide constant competitive action.

“The NASCAR Nationwide Series is an exciting addition to our diverse 2010 schedule. The spectator experience at Road America is like none other and we expect both our loyal and new fans to enjoy watching their American race heroes tackle our challenging natural road course,” stated George Bruggenthies, Road merica president and general manager, in a press release announcing the race.

In addition to the Nationwide Road America 200, the weekend schedule will include the SCCA Pro Racing's Trans-Am and Playboy MX-5 Cup Series, and the Mid-American Stock Car Series.

Traditional fan amenities include free parking, open grandstand seating, fantastic concessions, onsite camping and remarkable trackside viewing around the venue's grassy, wooded park-like setting.

Road America 200 ticket and camping information is available on-line or by calling Road America. Tickets will not be available for purchase until Feb. 1, 2010. Additional event details will be released as they become available.

Road America's history dates back to the early 1950s when public street races in the Elkhart Lake area were a part of the SCCA National Championship Series. When street racing became illegal in 1952, participants and supporters, many from the Chicago area, joined efforts and raised funds to develop Road America. The track held its first event, the SCCA National, on Sept. 10-11, 1955. Today, the track holds its original configuration and continues to challenge the world's best two- and four-wheel racers.

In addition to pro and club race events, Road America offers motorcycle and supermoto schools, group adventure programs and top-of-the-line hospitality.

Season passes are on sale through May 15, 2010 and will include the Road America 200 and 11 other events. For more information visit www.roadamerica.com or call (800) 365-7223.
