Building declines in city
The total property cost for new building permits dipped in the city of Sheboygan Falls in 2009.
The total cost of property for new building permits tallied $8,337,800 for 2009, which was a $7,657,600 drop from 2008.
The property cost for 2008 building permits was $15,995,400, which included $4,570,000 for the illfated GuestHouse Inn and Suites project.
The city experienced a considerable jump in new-home construction, as 12 one-family homes were built in 2009, compared to six in 2008. In addition, two new condominium units were constructed in 2009, compared to 16 in 2008.
In all, 14 new living units were built in the city of Sheboygan Falls in 2009, compared to 22 in 2008.
Major commercial development included building additions at Viking Packaging ($254,000), Bemis Manufacturing Co. ($268,000) and Torginol Inc. ($158,000).
In 2009, Toonen Properties of Green Bay opened Timber Springs Apartments on the northwest side of the city at 1040 Happy Lane.
The new 11-building, 88-unit luxury apartment complex was built at a price of $2,400,000. New construction accounted for $5,358,000 of the $8,337,800 end-of-the-year total for building permits.
