MEQUON – The Sheboygan Falls Falcons boys basketball team dropped a pair of games, during the two-day Mequon Homestead Invitational Dec. 29-30.

Falls (4-5 overall) lost to Homestead 65-53 on Tuesday, Dec. 29 and on Wednesday, Dec. 30, Waukesha North stopped the Falcons 51-42 in a defensive match-up for the consolation title.

Oshkosh North won over Waukesha North 47-40 in the championship game.

Junior Nick Roelse made four 3-pointers, scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Falcons against Homestead. Junior Matt Hasler also had a good night with 12 points.

“Homestead was a very athletic team,” said Falcons coach Eric Spielman. “We struggled to get stops inside. As a team, they shot 70 percent from the field.”

Falls had only 10 rebounds against Homestead.

Spielman felt that Falcons played better in the second half, scoring 35 points.

In the consolation game, Roelse led the Falcons scoring 15 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Senior Zach Berg added 11 points with three 3-pointers and senior Spencer Hurlburt had eight points with six boards.

“Again we struggled underneath against a taller team,” Spielman commented. “We played well defensively and made some good decisions on offense.”

Spielman stated that these games should help the Falcons improve in the second half of the season.

Falls plays six straight home games in January and Spielman feels playing at home could work to the Falcons’ favor.

The Falcons take on New Holstein this Friday, Jan, 8, at home.
