Red Cross to offer first aid classes
The Sheboygan County Chapter of the American Red Cross will be offering an instructor class for persons interested in teaching First Aid, CPR, and AED to the public, their company or organization. To be eligible for an instructor class, an individual should be competent in first aid and CPR skills.
An individual must complete the prerequisite course of Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) before entering the Lay Rescuer First Aid and CPR/AED Instructor class. The FIT class not only covers teaching techniques but also the background of the Red Cross.
The cost of this class is $25 and will be offered Thursday, Feb. 18, beginning at 8:30 a.m. After completing the FIT class, the instructor candidate will need to pass a skills and written test demonstrating their competency in CPR and First Aid techniques.
If the instructor candidate successfully completes this requirement, they will receive certification in adult, infant and child CPR, first aid, and AED. The skills testing will take place Feb. 18 after the FIT course.
The instructor class is scheduled to begin after the skills testing is completed. The instructor class will continue on Feb. 19, 25, and 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The instructor candidate must attend all sessions to be certified.
The cost of the Lay Rescuer Instructor class is $125, which includes the instructor book and a set of participant materials. If candidates are interested, additional training is available to become a CPR/AED for the professional rescuer instructor.
Registration can take place by mail or in person at the chapter office. Normal office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you have any questions about the class or requirements, please feel free to call 457-7739 for further information.
