DENNIS D. “HOOBIE” HUEBSCHEN
Dennis D. “Hoobie” Huebschen, age 65, of W5190 County MM, Elkhart Lake, (Rhine Center) died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010 at St. Luke’s Medical Center, Milwaukee, after suffering a massive stroke at his home Monday.
He was born Dec. 5, 1944 in Milwaukee, son of the late David and Pearl Gabrielson Huebschen. “Hoobie” was a graduate of Brookfield Central High School where he was an avid golfer for the school.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he was base illustrator and also trained German shepherds for the Military Police.
On July 7, 2007, he married Stephanie Fredricks at the Sheboygan County Marsh.
“Hoobie” had owned and operated General Screen Printing in Elkhart Lake for 25 years and also owned and restored Historic Rhine Center Inn. He also owned and operated the Rhine Center Garage since the ‘70s.
He had many interests in life including collecting old lunch buckets, pedal cars, old boats and other antiques.
He was known as the world’s best storyteller, world-class whistler, loved listening to the “blues” and loved animals.
Survivors include his wife, Stephanie; stepson, Zachary (Liz) Bauman and their children: Xavier and Adian of Sheboygan; good friend and father-in-law, Arthur Fredricks, Elm Grove; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Toni Hoffmann, Mark (Jean) Fredricks, Laurie Pedersen and Margo (Danny) Gahagan. He is further survived by two cousins, Richard Huebschen and Jim Huebschen; his former companion, Diana Stowell, Florida; other relatives and many friends.
He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Betty Fredricks and one sister-in-law, Cindy Fredricks.
A celebration of “Hoobie’s” life will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 Sixth St., Kiel, with lifelong friend, “Buckshot,” leading the celebration.
