Strategic planning on schedule

PLYMOUTH – The School Board’s Long-Range Financial Planning subcommittee is making progress.

Board President Mark Rhyan and board members Tim St. Clair and Pam Holzhaeuser serve on the committee. Rhyan noted at Tuesday’s School Board meeting that the subcommittee’s last two meetings focused on growing the district.

Superintendent Clark Reinke and Manager of Business Services Jon Miller have assisted the subcommittee in laying out various financial projections for the district.

“At the meetings, we discussed the best case, worst case and most likely,” Rhyan said. “For the next couple of years, we are in good shape.”

However, he added that the years 2011-12 and 2012-13 are precarious from a financial standpoint.

“At our previous meeting, we plotted items for putting the Plymouth School District on the map,” Rhyan said. “This included things we can do to improve our educational model so that we can attract more students into the district, as well as keep the students we have here in our district.”

Rhyan said that at the next meeting the subcommittee will brainstorm and discuss Plan B. “That is the plan to consider in the event we are not able to pull out, and the state will not give us the financial relief needed,” he explained.
