Resorters post impressive win
ELKHART LAKE – A good team effort sparked the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters to their biggest win of the season, 57-44, over Ozaukee here Tuesday night.
Ozaukee came into the game tied for second in the Central Lakeshore Conference girls basketball standings and handed first-place Oostburg its only CLC loss of the season. Elkhart improved to 6-3 in the league (8-3 overall) and ran its winning streak to three.
The Warriors slipped to 7-2 in the conference (7-2 overall).
“It was a great team win. Everyone contributed,” said Resorter head coach Don Kulow.
The Resorters enjoyed an outstanding first half as they built a 35-23 halftime lead. Elkhart was powered by Anna Vollrath’s nine points, followed by Stephanie Knepfel with eight and Kate Vollrath, seven, in the half.
“We moved the ball well, had good spacing and finished shots,” said Kulow about the first half. “We got the ball inside and were able to reverse it.”
The Warriors rallied to within 40-37 late in the third quarter but Elkhart regained the momentum when Maddie Landgraf drained a three-pointer at the end of the period to make it 43-37. Elkhart then used a 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter that boosted its lead to 49-37.
“Everyone did something positive in this game. I’m very proud of the girls,” Kulow said.
Elkhart shot a season-high 58 percent from the field.
Knepfel, a junior guard, led a balanced Elkhart offense with 13 points. Anna Vollrath had a team-high seven rebounds, two blocked shots and three assists.
Landgraf paced the Resorters in steals with three. Becca Hembel and Abbey Neils also had three assists apiece.
