Third-period outburst sparks Lutheran past Elkhart

ELKHART LAKE – Sam Dekker ignited a 28-point third quarter that propelled Sheboygan Lutheran past the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters, 78-57, in boys basketball here Thursday night.

The Crusaders outscored Elkhart 28-16 in the third period, led by Dekker’s 14 points, to blow the game open at 62-40. Dekker hit a game-high 28 points and sank three three-point goals – two in the third quarter.

The Resorters fell to 1-9 in the Central Lakeshore Conference (1-11 overall) and dropped their ninth straight game. Lutheran improved to 5-5 in the CLC (7-5 overall).

Elkhart senior guard Travis Kosnicki had a double-double with a team-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. Resorter junior guard Ryan Zareczny had an impressive 11 assists and seven steals – both team and personal highs.

‘We had a tough third quarter. We just gave up too many second shots and turned the ball over,” said Resorter head coach Jeremy Harrison. “Ryan played well.”

JV GAME The Elkhart junior varsity played very hard, according to coac Jeremy Bushman, but lost, 51-39. Justin Schneider’s 21 points paced the Resorters.
