Meet candidates Feb. 9

To the Editor:

As happens every year in January, the Sheboygan County Taxpayers Alliance recently held their annual election of officers. For the year 2010, both Richard W. Hartmann and Darlene Nardi have been re-elected to the positions of president and vice president/treasurer respectively.

Also on the agenda was the finalization of plans for our “Meet the Candidates” forum to be held at the Mead Public Library from 6-9 p.m. Feb. 9 in the Rocca Room. This forum will include those who seek the position of city of Sheboygan alderman.

A primary election is needed for some districts, and will take place Feb. 16. The general election will be April 6.

Normally Sheboygan County Taxpayer Alliance’s (SCTA's) forum, to which all are welcome, is to introduce those people whose names will appear on ballots in the primary election and requiring a runoff. As of this writing, no other organization or entity has given notice that they will conduct a similar forum prior to the general election ... that of which has been the norm. Therefore, in the interest of fairness to all candidates, SCTA is including candidates from all districts with two or more candidates for the same position. This gives exposure to non-incumbents.

January also comes with the report that SCTA's Web site: sheboygantaxpayers.org will continue to be available for another year. SCTA invites everyone to access this Web site for a sampling of our activities, and should anyone need a reminder of what they read or heard from the media concerning the “Forum,” it will be there to refresh the memory.

So it is true, we have again hit the ground running, and local governing bodies can look forward to receiving our annual “Proposals for Action,” as work on these projects has also begun.

SCTA would like to take this opportunity to extend a public “thank you” to our non-member benefactors, whose support during 2009 enabled us to not only augment, but also complete various projects.

Richard W. Hartmann, president, Sheboygan County Taxpayers Alliance
