Lackluster showing by Resorters

ELKHART LAKE – The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters had a disappointing performance here Monday night as they stumbled against Reedsville, 58-46, in nonconference girls basketball action.

Elkhart, which was coming off two strong games last week versus two very good teams in Ozaukee and Oostburg, fell behind the Panthers 10-2 at the start of the game and trailed the entire contest.

“We didn’t come ready to play. We were flat,” said a frustrated Don Kulow, Elkhart’s head coach.

“We didn’t play with intensity and fire. They outhustled us. We dug ourselves too big of a hole.”

The Resorters, 8-5 this season, rallied to within 38-34 going into the fourth quarter after outscoring Reedsville 12-8 in the third. The Panthers responded by outscoring Elkhart 20-12 in the fourth period, sparked by Lyndsay Holschbach’s eight points.

“They capitalized on our mental mistakes in the fourth quarter,” Kulow said.

“We had opportunities but we had 21 turnovers and gave up 15 offensive rebounds. I have to give Reedsville credit. They played well and took advantage of the opportunities we gave them.”

Holschbach, a senior guard, led all scorers with 23 points and was 7-for-9 at the free-throw line. Senior forward Kate Vollrath paced Elkhart with a season-high 19 points.

The Panthers dominated the boards with a 31-19 rebounding edge and scored several points off of offensive rebounds. The visitors committed only 10 turnovers.

Kate Vollrath and Maddie Landgraf led the Resorters in assists with three apiece. Landgraf had a teamhigh two steals.

Anna Vollrath paced Elkhart in rebounds with five and blocked shots, three.

“We need to learn from this game. We were hoping to use last week’s games as a springboard for this week,” Kulow.

JV GAME Elkhart lost the junior varsity contest, 37-22. Haley Kammerzelt paced the Resorters (5-7) in scoring with eight points and shared rebounding honors with Rachael Lallensack at five each.
