Hospitals to mark American Heart Month
February is American Heart Month. Three area hospitals — St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay; St. Mary’s Hospital, Green Bay; and St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan; along with Prevea Health, Green Bay and Sheboygan, have teamed up to speak up against heart disease and help save lives.
The three hospitals and Prevea Health are working together to provide the following activities throughout the month:
1 Feb. 5 — National Wear Red Day. Everyone in the community is encouraged to wear red on this day. In addition, Green Bay and Sheboygan area pre-school and day care center children will color either a dress or shirt to give to their parent/guardian. The coloring sheet includes a tender message of 10 ways to “love” your heart.
2 Feb. 11 — Cholesterol-lipid and glucose screening at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan, from 8 to 10 a.m., for a fee. To register call (920) 459-4636. Reminder: this test requires a 12-hour fast.
3 Feb. 16 — Francisco Soto, MD, Prevea-Sheboygan pulmonary medicine will speak on congestive heart disease at St. Nicholas Hospital in the Christopher Room from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
St. Mary’s Hospital, St. Nicholas Hospital, St. Vincent Hospital, and Prevea Health will also light up the skies with red lights around their facilities at night during the month of February. In addition, they will be offering several lunch and learn heart health sessions to their colleagues throughout the month.
