Big second quarter fuels Tigers’ lopsided win

STOCKBRIDGE – Howards Grove outscored Stockbridge 19-2 in the second quarter to key a 47-23 trouncing in girls basketball here Thursday night.

The Tigers, ranked No. 12 in Division 3, upped their second-place Central Lakeshore Conference record to 9-1 (12-2 overall).

Alexis Lindstrom, Ali Benning and Brianna Morgen led the Tigers’ scoring in the second period with four points each as Howards built a 31-7 halftime cushion. Lindstrom ignited the Tigers’ attack in the opening half with 10 of her 12 points – six in the first quarter.

Benning had a strong overall performance with a team-high 13 points, four assists and four steals. The senior guard-forward was an excellent 6-for-8 from the field.

Lindstrom, who also had four steals, was an impressive 5-for-6 from the floor and was 2-for-2 at the foul line. Lindstrom and Kasey Latham contributed three assists apiece.

The Tigers had an outstanding 18 steals. Howards’ rebounding was spread out with no player having more than three rebounds.
