Resorters’ defense struggles
ELKHART LAKE – Stockbridge shot a blistering 67 percent (14 of 21) from the field in the second half to ignite a 75-64 boys basketball win over the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters here Friday night.
Elkhart led 19-15 after one quarter but struggled on defense the rest of the game as it was outscored 60- 45 over the last three quarters. Mitch Schroeder sparked the Indians’ offense with a game-high 31 points, including 19 in the second half when his team outscored the Resorters 44-39.
Schroeder, who drained four three-pointers, erupted for 12 points in the third period.
“We need stop someone. We have no problem scoring. We just need to play better defense,” said Resorter head coach Jeremy Harrison.
Senior guard Dane Blake led the Resorters with a season-high 28 points – 22 in the second half. Senior guard Travis Kosnicki added 21, including nine in the opening quarter.
The loss, which was the Resorters’ 11th in a row, dropped their Central Lakeshore Conference mark to 1-11 (1-13 overall).
Blake also had a team-high six rebounds, five assists, two blocked shots and five steals. Jon Petrie also grabbed six boards. Kosnicki contributed four assists and steals each.
JV GAMES
In junior varsity action, the Resorters staged a fourth-quarter rally but came up short, 47-43. Elkhart outscored the Indians 14-4 in the period, led by Taylor Kaboord who scored all seven of his points.
Justin Schneider and Tom Pritzl paced Elkhart scorers with 16 and 10, respectively. Schneider also had a team-best 13 rebounds, four steals and four blocks. Ollie Sadiq led in assists with three.
In their previous game Tuesday night, the Resorters fell to host Cedar Grove-Belgium, 45-26. Kaboord and Derek Weiss led Elkhart in scoring with eight each.
