Post prom party

To the Editor:

On May 1, we will once again celebrate Prom Night in Elkhart Lake. For students everywhere, “prom night” doesn’t end when the dance is over. Traditionally, students continue to party throughout the night and in other communities some events have ended in tragedy because of drinking- and drug-related accidents.

For the 19th consecutive year, Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah parents are organizing a great way for our students to continue to celebrate in a safe, drug- and alcohol-free environment. Anchor Lanes has again donated the use of their facility where we will host an all night beach party-themed lockin, featuring casino games, bowling, sumo wrestling, an auction, and non-stop food and refreshments. This party is free to the students and has been very successful, with attendance increasing each year.

We are excited as we begin the planning for this year's Resorter Royale Post Prom Party. As concerned parents and community members, we are donating our time and energy, but we also need support. We rely on the monetary and material donations from the community and outside sources. In past years the response has been overwhelming, and we hope we can count on such generosity once again.

Our goal is to continue to provide a creative, exciting, and chemical-/alcohol-free post prom party so our high school students won’t choose to go elsewhere. We realize our children have friends in neighboring communities and wish to spend their special evening with them. Our students are allowed to bring guests whether they attend Elkhart Lake or not, at no cost to the student or their guest. Because of your generous support, we are confident we can again make this happen.

We are seeking donations (food and beverages, monetary, merchandise or gift certificates for door prizes and the auction) from businesses and organizations that share our concern for the safety and well-being of our young people.

Any donation will be greatly appreciated. Please forward them to Jean Neils, Post Prom Committee coordinator, N8802 Little Elkhart Lake Road, Elkhart Lake, WI 53020; home phone: (920) 876-3283.
