Support AB 138

To the Editor:

I/We would like to say “thank you” to state Sen. Joe Leibham, Reps. Terry Van Akkeren and Bob Ziegelbauer for their continued support of AB 138 and their commitment to vote for override of the governor’s veto of AB 138.

I/We would also like to voice our “concern” about both Reps. Steve Kestell and Dan LeMahieu who have indicated they will vote against a veto override.

Most of you are aware that AB 138 would remove the DNR secretary position from a governorappointed position to the original board-appointed position. The board-appointed position has been the choice of sportspersons, conservationists, and water quality/conservationists all along.

Both Kestell and LeMahieu have supported AB 138 in the past. Now, however, both have publicly stated they will not support a veto override of AB 138.

Their current position appears to be following the governor’s “yes I will, no I won’t” position or maybe one could say “bait and switch.”
