Panthers improve in EWC Tourney

NEW HOLSTEIN – The young Plymouth Panthers continued to show good strides in Eastern Wisconsin Conference wrestling as they finished sixth in the league tournament here Saturday.

PHS improved greatly over last year’s conference showing when it finished last in the tourney and was 0-7 in dual action. The Panthers posted a 3-4 dual mark this season.

“I’m very pleased with the team and very happy with the gains we have made this season,” said Panther head coach Bob Weix.

“We had only two kids who didn’t place higher than where they were seeded [in the EWC tournament]. It would’ve been nice to get a couple of kids in the finals.”

The Panthers were led by five third-place competitors – Collin Rortvedt at 125 pounds; Justin Lesko, 145; Luke Ohman, 152; Zach Pfankuch, 171; and John Pruitt at 215. Rortvedt, who had two pins on the day, bounced back from a tough 6-5 loss in the semifinals against Two Rivers’ Joseph Her with a pin in the third-place match.

Plymouth’s other place-winners were Tim Edwards, fourth at 130; Dan Uribe, fifth, 119; and Brandon Wiggins, fifth at 140.

PHS scored 75 and ½ points. Campbellsport took first with 177.
