Rentmeester leads Elkhart in CLC Tourney
CEDAR GROVE – Sophomore Kyle Rentmeester finished second at 160 pounds to lead the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters in the Central Lakeshore Conference Wrestling Tournament here Saturday.
The Resorters placed fourth with 115 points in the five-team tourney in which there was round-robin competition at each weight class to determine the champions. Oostburg won the title with 233 points and had four first-place finishers.
Oostburg also won the overall CLC championship (duals and tourney combined). The Flying Dutchmen had a league-best 4-0 dual mark. Elkhart took fourth overall.
Rentmeester was 3-1 in the meet, including a pin. His only loss was to champion Tyler Garcia of Cedar Grove-Belgium in round five by a pin.
The Resorters’ third-place finishers were Neven Grgic at 112 and Adam Ruechel at 171. Grgic recorded one pin.
Elkhart’s other place-winners included: fourth – Austin Schmidt at 103; Luke Klotzbach, 130; Joey Gruenke, 135; Shane Schanke, 140; Tyler Jones, 145; Rich Schamberger, 152; Deric Lightle, 215; and Dylan Entringer at 285; and fifth – Adam Klotzbach at 119.
Resorter head coach Dan Stephanie wasn’t pleased with his team’s overall performance.
“We looked lethargic. We didn’t have intensity and energy,” Stephanie said. “I was surprised because we had a good week of practice.
“I was hoping for more higher place-winners. I think we can bounce back at the regional [Saturday].”
