Cascade Elementary for sale

PLYMOUTH – The former Cascade Elementary School and property are for sale at a listing price of $285,000.
The four Plymouth School Board members present at Tuesday’s monthly meeting voted unanimously to enter into a one-year contract, at a 4 percent commission, with Pleasant View Realty, Plymouth, to list and sell the building and property.
Board President Mark Rhyan and board members Jeff Tauscheck and Jerry Prahl were not present at Tuesday’s meeting. Tim St. Clair, the board’s vice president, conducted the meeting.
Jon Miller, manager of business services, said that in previous board meetings, board members had indicated they wanted to place the building and property for sale.
“I had Pleasant View Realty draw up a proposal for a contract,” Miller said. “They would charge a 4 percent commission. They suggested $285,000. We had an appraisal done.
“Pleasant View Realty would like a one-year contract, because it’s difficult to sell school buildings,” Miller added. “There are a few schools for sale in the area at this time.”
He noted too that holding onto this property entails costs for the district.
“We have costs for heating the building, maintaining the grounds and removing the snow,” he said.
With the Plymouth School District facing a dramatic budget deficit for the 2009-10 school year, board members voted 5-2 this past June to close Cascade Elementary. Most of the students who attended grades 5- K through third grade at that school last year are now students at Parkview Elementary in Plymouth.
