bprimary 24feb10 Incumbents advance in primary vote

The incumbent Sheboygan City Council members advanced in the Feb. 16 primary election, but only one finished atop their three-person primary field.

Alderman Mark Hanna finished far in front of his two challengers in the 7th District on the city’s northwest side. Hanna gathered 421 votes to 95 for Joel Hammen and 81 for Vicky Meyer. That means Hanna and Hammen will square off in the April 6 general election and Meyer, a former alderman, is eliminated.

In the other two districts that had primaries, the incumbents finished second but still got enough votes to advance to the April general election.

In the 1st District, on the city’s northeast side, Scott Versey was the top vote getter with 214 votes. Incumbent Alderman Edward Surek finished second with 168 votes, ahead of challenger Collin Kachel, who got 141 votes and was eliminated.

Challenger Dennis Radtke finished first in voting in the 2nd District in downtown Sheboygan, compiling 185 votes to 98 for incumbent Alderman Vang Neng Vue. Allen Brunke finished third with 58 votes and will not be on the April ballot.
