Bombers soar behind Bauer, Marzano

KOHLER – The 1-2 scoring punch from seniors Justin Bauer and Frank Marzano catapulted Kohler over Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, 62-54, in boys basketball action here Thursday night.

Bauer popped in 21 points, including three treys, and Marzano hit 19 with two three-pointers. For the game, the Blue Bombers were an outstanding 8-for-13 (62 percent) from the three-point arc.

The Bombers improved to 6-10 in the Central Lakeshore Conference (9-11 overall). The Resorters fell to 2-14 in the CLC (2-17 overall).

Kohler mounted a 34-22 halftime lead after outscoring Elkhart 19-12 in the second quarter, sparked by senior Matt Ollmann’s eight points, including two threes.

The Resorters cut the lead to 43-36 after holding Kohler to just nine points in the third period. The Bombers picked it back up on offense in the final quarter to hold off Elkhart as they held a 19-18 scoring edge.

Senior guard Dane Blake led Elkhart in scoring with 21 – exploding for 10 in the fourth quarter. Jon Petrie had a team-high nine rebounds and Travis Kosnicki, eight.

Ryan Zareczny paced the Resorters in assists with three. Blake led in steals with three and grabbed seven boards.

“We really had too many turnovers and didn’t rebound well,” said Resorter head coach Jeremy Harrison. “We need to work on coming to the ball and playing defense.”
