TWO RIVERS – The Sheboygan Falls Falcons made 9-of-12 free throws in the fourth quarter to win their final regular season game of the season 50-42 over the Two Rivers Purple Raiders Friday, Feb. 26.

Falls senior Zach Berg made 6-of-6 free throws and scored a game-high 13 points to lift the Falcons to victory.

By dropping the Purple Raiders, Falls finished 6-8 in the final Eastern Wisconsin Conference standings. (11-11 overall).

The No. 4 seeded Falcons played their first-round WIAA Division 2 regional playoff game Tuesday, March 2, against No. 5 seed Campbellsport.

The winner advances to play the winner of the Plymouth versus Mayville first-round regional playoff game Thursday, March 4, at a site to be determined.

Falls senior Dan Duda hit three 3-pointers, including two in the first quarter and finished with 10 points. Junior Nick Roelse added nine points and had 12 rebounds, with eight assists. Senior Spencer Hurlburt scored four points and grabbed six rebounds, with four assists.

The Falcons pushed the lead to 11 points in the third quarter at 31-20, but the Raiders finished on a 7-0 run. The Falcons committed two key turnovers and gave up a 3-point goal.

“This was one of our better games of being patient on offense,” said Falcons coach Eric Spielman. “I thought Roelse distributed the ball more and we moved the ball well.”

Division 1 standout and University of Wisconsin college recruit Josh Gasser scored 16 points to lead the Port Washington Pirates over Falls 62-43 in a non-conference contest Tuesday, Feb. 23, at Port Washington.

Port outscored the Falcons 21-9 in the first quarter and maintained a defensive edge on Falls the rest of the way.

“I’m somewhat happy on we played against Port,” stated Spielman. “They had an edge in size and ran the ball well.”

Spielman felt that outside of the first quarter, the Falcons hung with the Pirates pretty well.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game, but we worked on getting ourselves ready for the tournament,” Spielman explained.

Duda led the Falcons in scoring with 12 points. Roelse added 11 points and had nine rebounds.

Two Rivers edged the Falcon junior varsity squad 47-46 off of some late turnovers in the fourth quarter. Aaron Krueger led the team with 15 points and Alex Wagner had 12 points.

“We made some bad decisions and gave the game away,” said coach Jeff Duda.

Falls finished the season 7-7 in the EWC (12-10 overall).

Jake Hucke scored 15 points to lead the Falls freshman to a 59-47 win. The Falcons led the whole way, as Jacob Tenpas added 13 points.
