SFHS to serve as wrestling training site

The Sheboygan Falls Wrestling Association in cooperation with the Wisconsin Wrestling Federation will be hosting a regional training site at Sheboygan Falls High School.

The cost is free, but all participants must have a USA wrestling card, which can be purchased online at the Web site www.wiwrestlingfederation.com.

The Sheboygan Falls regional training site will run for six weeks, beginning Monday, March 15, through the week of the State Freestyle Wrestling Tournament.

Training will be offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The instruction will be lead by Lakeland College Wrestling Coach Peter Rogers.

He brings a motivating teaching style that has been proven to help Wisconsin athletes learn how to wrestle and compete at all levels.

The technique that the will be taught is the same across the state to ensure that all athletes are learning the same system of technique and are prepared to help wrestlers succeed at the state, regional and the national level.

The goal is to have everyone that attends events, such as age group National Duals, Kids Nationals, and Fargo, be on the same page.

If athletes understand the same system of techniques, strategies and tactics when coming into a training camp, more time can be spent on reviewing, refining, and peaking wrestling skills.

“Very little if any new instruction should need to be shown at the various training camps this summer,” said Fred Brown, Sheboygan Falls High School head wrestling coach. “Although valuable for the long-term development, it is unrealistic to think new skills learned in the four days of training camp, will be executed by many of our athletes at the national tournament.

“I encourage all coaches and athletes to attend to learn the international styles of wrestling,” he said. “The benefits of learning these styles are endless.”
