Well tests available for HG village

HOWARDS GROVE – The village will allow David Such of the University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan Extension to conduct well water testing in the village.

Such received a grant that will allow water samples to be tested for bacteria, nitrates, chloride, PH level, alkalinity, hardness, conductivity and corrosives.

This grant will be offered at a reduced rate from the normal $35 down to a $7 fee for village residents. The program can only process 150 samples at the reduced rate.

Bottles will be given out Friday and Saturday, May 14 and 15, and need to be returned by Monday, May 17.

A results information meeting will be held in June for the participants. The Village Board supported the idea and will place information in the village newsletter.

Village President James Scheiber encouraged the board members to come to the Plan Commission meeting Tuesday, March 9, when there will be discussion on long-range planning or to provide Trustee Mike Stoeckigt with any information they would like to see included in the plan. Scheiber would like to have a long-range comprehensive plan ready for the town hall meeting in April.

There was also discussion on permanently reducing the per diem for board members to $50. Scheiber stated that the board should lead by example and would like to vote on the issue at the next board meeting.

Board members voted to allow the Department of Aging and Disability Resource Center for community education to use the Community Center for no charge.

Visitor Loree Shriver of Countryside Manor would like to put on a seminar on dementia. Shriver asked if the board would allow a reduced rate to use the Community Center. The board approved Shriver’s request.

The 2010 Census Bureau will use the Village Board meeting room for training.

Mary Zore attended a clerk’s district meeting and asked the clerks if they handed out a certified survey map before they have a chance to review the legal document. There were just a few towns that stated that they did it that way; some didn’t.

Zore also explained that the certified survey map (CSM) presented by Matt Kapellen was not dropped off ahead of the meeting, as requested, and the reason she asked Kapellen to return the next morning to pick up the CSM was to allow time for review of the legal document. Zore said that when she signs her name to this document, it shouldn’t be released until it has been reviewed.
