Work to get started on I-43
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation regional office in Green Bay is providing an update on road construction in Sheboygan County.
Preparation work will begin this week for work on the southbound portion of Interstate 43 from State 42 to County V. The right lane will be closed on Thursday so pavement marking can be removed in preparation for the longer closure that is scheduled to begin the following Monday. Work zone traffic control devices will be staged along the project this week in preparation for the lane closure starting next Monday as well.
Next week, the I-43 southbound left lane will be closed from north of State 42 to County V. Once the closure is established, work on bridge deck replacement will begin on the State 42, Pigeon River, State 23, Sheboygan River, State 28 and County EE bridges, in the southbound left lane.
The $16.0 million I-43 project from the south county line to State 42 involves bridge deck repair and overlay, asphaltic surface milling, hot mix asphalt pavement, beam guard, concrete base patching, ramp closure gates, law enforcement pads, and all incidentals to complete the project.
I-43 will have one lane closed in the southbound lanes from State 42 to County V, starting at 6 a.m. Monday, March 15. This closure will remain up for the duration of time required to complete the first phase of the bridge deck replacements. Changeable message boards are being used to inform the motoring public in advance when work will begin. They will be posted one week prior to the work beginning.
Motorists are advised to use caution and remain alert when driving through any work zone.
