The fourth-seeded Sheboygan Falls Falcons crushed the fifth-seeded Campbellsport Cougars 64-31 in the first round of the WIAA Division 2 boys basketball regional playoffs Tuesday, March 2, in Sheboygan Falls.

With the victory, the Falcons (12-11 overall) advanced to meet conference rival and No. 1 seeded Plymouth Thursday, Mar. 4 at Plymouth. Campbellsport finished the season 5-18 overall.

The Falcons defense held the Cougars scoreless for the last six minutes and 18 seconds and scored 19 straight points in the fourth quarter to notch their largest victory of the season.

Falls senior Dan Duda led a host of 3-point shooters with four, as Falls finished with 10 for the game.

“We came out and played well tonight,” said Duda. “Their zone caused us to pass the ball around and we didn’t force any bad shots.

Falcons’ head coach Eric Spielman was pleased with his team’s performance in its opening-round playoff game.

“We made some nice progress since the last game against Campbellsport, when we escaped with a 57-55 win,” Spielman remarked. “The offense had good shot selection and we really got into a rhythm by the fourth quarter.”

Falls opened the game with three straight 3-pointers from seniors Spencer Hurlburt, Duda and Zach Berg, which propelled the Falcons to a 12-6 lead.

Campbellsport closed the score to 14-12 early in the second quarter on a string of 3-pointers from Reid Hundertmark and Jeff Bong.

The Falcons finished the first half on a 9-0 run to grab a 23-12 lead. Junior Nick Roelse and Duda hit 3- point shots to lead the scoring.

Roelse scored eight points in the paint, as Falls built its lead to 36-21 in the third quarter. Sophomore junior-varsity call-up Bobby Musil contributed four points, with a steal, and Berg dropped a in a big 3- pointer, with two seconds left in the third.

The Falcons emptied the bench in the fourth quarter, building the lead to over 30 points. Junior Mitch Thimmig led the scoring with seven points, including a couple of 3-point field goals.

Roelse led all scorers with 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Duda finished with 14 for the Falcons. The Falls unit shot a season-high 66 percent from the field.

Hundertmark scored 10 points to lead Campbellsport and Kyle Beck added nine.
