Raml ready for County Board run

John Raml, Sheboygan Falls, is not new to public office or serving in the community. It is because of his experience he has decided to place his name on the ballot for the Sheboygan County Board to fill the vacated position of Harold Riemer, who has retired. Raml will be representing District 26, which includes Wards 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10.

Raml’s past positions include working as the facilities manager for the Sheboygan Falls School District for 19 years and from which he has retired.

“I decided to run for the County Board when I heard Harold Riemer was retiring because I’ve always been active in the community,” Raml said.

“I coached kids my entire adult life with the United Football League – which was about 40 years, Pee Wee baseball, and I was on the Sheboygan Falls Recreation Board for 36 years,” Raml added.

“I also served on the Park Board, Sheboygan Falls Planning Commission, was an alderman and on the School Board,” Raml said. “Public service has been my life.

“So, because of my record, and the fact that the seat became available, it just seemed like the thing to do,” Raml stated.

“I called Riemer first, to make sure he wasn’t running, because I didn’t want to run against him,” Raml said, “and that’s when he confirmed that he was going to retire.

“The committees I’m interested in being on would be facilities, because that’s my expertise, or highway,” Raml continued, “or, wherever I can serve.

“I’m also interested in keeping taxes down, and I do have concerns about the .5 percent sales tax,” Raml said. “I can see where it could be good, but how will the money be used? The money isn’t always spent the way they say, and I have concerns about property taxes; and again, I’m always concerned where the tax money goes, and if I knew, but things don’t always go where they say they’re going.

“I would like to see the railroad come back into town,” Raml said, “especially at Bemis and Richardson’s.

“I think the railroad could help with jobs and help with taxes,” Raml pointed out. “The railroad could eliminate the large semis on county roads.

“Another project is Morgan Aircraft,” Raml said. “This aviation project is encouraging, especially regarding jobs.

“This is a tough economy and we need to do whatever we can to promote jobs in our community.

“What I would contribute to the County Board is the number of boards I could be on, and I’ve always been a person who’s been involved,” Raml said. “If I say I’m going to do it, I will follow through with it.

“As a County Board member, I would be a lookout for the interests of the people of Sheboygan Falls.

“People can call me with concerns,” Raml continued. “I’ve always been accessible and willing to hear people who want to express their thoughts and give comments.

“I don’t believe in attacking others ideas. I don’t have to think exactly like you and you don’t have to agree exactly with me, but that doesn’t mean we can’t work together.

“I will ask questions and I’m not afraid to speak up,” Raml said, “but I will listen to comments.”
