Truck hits pole, knocks out lights
About 1,000 customers on the city’s east side were without power for 38 minutes Tuesday morning when a semi-trailer struck a utility pole on South Street.
According to a press release from Plymouth Utilities, the truck was turning into the receiving entrance of American Dairy Brands on South Street when the trailer struck and damaged a utility pole at 8:12 a.m.
The accident caused an outage to one of the electric distribution circuits at Substation No. 1.
The circuit serves about 1,000 customers on the east side of Plymouth, including the Plymouth Municipal Garage, Shell Plastics, the Piggly Wiggly store and Fairview Elementary School. The outage also affected a city sewage lift station in the Highland Avenue area, but Plymouth Utilities reported no sewage backups or related problems.
Utilities personnel checked the damage and were able to put the circuit back in service at 8:50 a.m. Plymouth Utilities will be replacing the damaged pole.
