Perl keys Panthers’ EWC victory
PLYMOUTH – Junior center Chrissy Perl’s team-high 15 points and 11 rebounds powered the Plymouth Panthers to a 54-43 girls basketball win over Waupun here Thursday night.
The Panthers, who improved to 11-9 overall, moved into a tie for third place in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference with Two Rivers at 8-5. Waupun, 7-6 in the EWC, was tied for fourth with PHS coming into the game.
Plymouth’s defense clamped down after the first quarter as the Panthers outscored the Warriors 40-30 in the last three quarters combined. PHS held Waupun to only 30-percent shooting (16 of 54) from the field.
“It was a big game for us. We want to finish third in the conference,” said PHS head coach Brad Shutter.
“It was a very good team effort. From start to finish, it was one of our better conference games.”
Shutter thought his defense defended two of Waupun’s top offensive threats, Katie Hansen and Morgan Domask, better in the second half and limited the Warriors to one shot. Hansen was held to six points in the second half after scoring 13 in the first.
“Chrissy had one of her better games and had a double-double [scoring and rebounding],” Shutter said.
“Our movement and spacing on offense were good.”
Amanda Gumm and Emily Cecka led the Panthers in assists with five and four, respectively. Gumm had a team-high two steals.

“We played hard tonight on both ends of the floor. Waupun is a good team,” said Panther head coach Mike Gumm.
Rathsack and Joa Cain paced PHS in rebounds with five apiece. Grapentine had a team-high three steals. Sophia Kiela and Rathsack led in assists with three each.
In the freshman contest, the Panthers won, 30-18, behind Ali Noble and Ashley Doebert who hit eight points each. Miranda Stauss had a team-high six steals and Noble led in boards with 14.
