St. John Lutheran wins basketball tourney
SHEBOYGAN – Saint John Lutheran School in Plymouth placed first in the 17th annual Bethlehem Lutheran School Girls Basketball Tournament here Feb. 26-27.
The Plymouth team finished 3-0 in the eight-team tourney, climaxed by 35-18 win over Holy Family of Sheboygan in the championship game. The tournament included grades 7-8.
Plymouth’s St. John the Baptist Catholic School won the consolation championship with a 36-34 victory over Christ Child Academy of Sheboygan. The tourney’s sportsmanship award went to St. John the Baptist which posted a 2-1 mark.
The St. John Lutheran team included: Mackenzie Haese, Katy Boening, Kaily Moegenburg, Delaney Haese, Ericka Bohrmueller, Emily Sass, Nikki Reil, Morgan Konz, Alexis Holly and coaches Brad Steinhardt and Craig Steinhardt.
Members of the St. John the Baptist squad included: Beth Brisson, Sara Romps, Brienne Cain, Karley Dochterman, Megan Huibregtse, Rachel Romps, Elizabeth Struve, Paulina Norton and coaches Bill Romps, Dick Brisson and Matt Dochterman.
Emily Ploeckelman of Christ Child in Sheboygan was the individual free-throw champion with 8-for-10. Ploeckelman and Lori Herdi combined to win the team free-throw contest for Christ Child with 14-for-20.
