A day in the life of a Boys and Girls Club member

My name is Allison Antonie and I am a student at Sheboygan Falls Elementary School.

I attend the Boys & Girls Club in Sheboygan Falls every day of the week. I like how the front desk staff is always smiling and helping me sign in everyday.

My favorite part is being able to scan in with my membership card. I think the Boys & Girls Club is a great place to go after school to have fun with my friends. I like going to the club in the summer, when I don’t have anything to do.

On Monday, Josh, one of the staff members, scheduled 30 minutes of ‘kid’s choice’ in the gym, my favorite area of the club.

This means we get to choose the game to play. Josh is always fair when setting up rules to the games. He gives equal time for the girls and boys in the gym.

I like that Josh treats all the members with respect and I think he’s a nice person. My favorite game to play in the gym is dodge ball.

I remember my first day at the club I played dodge ball. The other members were shocked when I made the dodge ball in the hoop on my second try, so my teammates, who were out, got to get back into the game. I also like to play catch and run or basketball, when I’m in the gym.

Tuesday I stopped in the games room to play carpet ball. Usually I will play carpet ball, ping-pong or pool. It is always fun in the games room, because there are a lot of kids there.

Tuesday there was a special theme for the day, Dr. Seuss Day. The entire club was doing activities that had to do with a Dr. Seuss story. My favorite was the activity in the gym, where we had to put the green egg on the ham.

Wednesdays are always busy at the club. It is also a lot of fun, because more of my friends are there. I went to the games room to play carpet ball again.

I think my second favorite room would be the games room. Today the snack bar was really busy. The line was almost to the front desk.

On Thursday, we had another theme day, Mardi Gras Day. All the members of the club decorated masks and were in a parade around the club.

I enjoyed seeing all the different masks made by my friends and learned a lot about Mardi Gras. I also went in the art room, where I participated in a coloring contest.

My favorite activities in the art room are coloring contests or doing oil pastels. I also like to do the paintings. It gives me time to rest from being the in gym and running around.

One time we did rotating painting, where we all start with a big piece of paper and start painting a picture. After a little bit of time, we pass our pictures and continue painting. It is a lot of fun to see what everyone adds to the pictures.

Friday I was in all the different areas of the club. I saw on the big daily schedule that the learning center would be playing Apples to Apples. I love that game.

I went to the learning center to join the rest of the members to play. My other favorite game in the learning center is bingo.

The Boys & Girls Club is a lot of fun, but it has also taught me to play fair and treat everyone nicely. I am so happy I get to come here after school every day. I can’t wait for summer.
